The San Francisco Fog Men’s competitive and developmental sides travel to Reno, Nevada to square off in two matches against the University of Nevada Wolfpack Rugby in Reno. Both games will be played in the evening under the lights.

The San Francisco Fog prevailed on a day filled with lots of rugby, winning all four of its matches against competition from all over California, including two IGRAB (International Gay Rugby Association and Board) member clubs, the Los Angeles Rebellion and San Diego Armada, and the Sacramento Amazons women’s club. The day was highlighted by the presence of CHEER San Francisco, who provided excitement from the sidelines and pumped up the crowd throughout all of the matches.

The Fog Men’s developmental side started off the day with a 31-0 victory against the San Diego Armada. The Fog Men’s competitive side took the field next and defeated the Los Angeles Rebellion, 21-0. The Fog Women starred in the third match of the day, winning 31-19 against the Sacramento Amazons. Lastly, the Fog prevailed against a combined Los Angeles/San Diego side, 22-3.

The Fog offers thanks to the Sacramento Amazons, the Los Angeles Rebellion, and the San Diego Armada for traveling to San Francisco and playing some great rugby. The Fog also extends sincere thanks to CHEER San Francisco for all their spirit and support throughout the day.

Members of the San Francisco Fog Rugby Football Club participated in a grass-roots Protest March against the passage of Proposition 8 in California on the evening of Friday, November 7, 2008. The march started at the United Nations Plaza in downtown San Francisco, proceeded down Market Street and snaked through the Castro Neighborhood, ending up at Dolores Park.

The Fog appear in an iReport video produced by Fog videographer Sean Chapin covering the Protest March. The video has been shown in part on the GRITtv show as well as on the CNN cable news channel.

FOG WOMEN VS. SACRAMENTO AMAZONS!

The San Francisco Fog Rugby Football Club hosts an amazing day filled with lots of rugby this upcoming Saturday, November 8. The Fog is hosting a California IGRAB Round Robin Tournament with both Fog Men sides squaring off against the Los Angeles Rebellion and the San Diego Armada, while the Fog Women go into battle against rivals Sacramento Amazons.

With so many exciting games happening, the Fog is proud to announce that CHEER San Francisco will be coming out to give their cheer to all of the rugby teams!

(Nov. 5, 2008) This is a sad day for all Californians. The people of our state apparently voted in favor of discrimination, repealing a specific minority’s civil rights in yesterday’s election.

The Yes on Proposition 8 movement, primarily funded and staffed by out-of-state religious zealots, has been able to take away fundamental rights enumerated in the State Constitution.

Proposition 8 has never been about restoring the traditional definition of marriage. Instead, it strips a right from law-abiding, tax-paying, gay and lesbian couples. And contrary to the statements of the Yes on 8 supporters, domestic partnerships do not and have not enjoyed the same legal rights as married spouses.

Supporters of Proposition 8 said today that the constitutional amendment “takes effect at midnight tonight. Just as it was before the Supreme Court’s ruling, only marriage between a man and a woman will be valid or recognized in California, regardless of when or where performed.” We can only hope and work towards the goal that the courts protect the thousands of gay and lesbian marriages already performed.

This has been a hard-fought campaign but this is not the end.

The San Francisco Fog Rugby Football Club asks you to stand with us and work to erase legalized discrimination, whether it occurs in employment, housing, marriage rights, or on the rugby pitch.

The San Francisco Fog Women faces off against Stanford Women’s Rugby at 2pm this upcoming Saturday, November 1 at our home pitch on Treasure Island. Come on out to cheer on the Lady Fog!

The San Francisco Fog Men kicked off their pre-season with a match against the San Jose Silverhawks on Saturday, October 25 in San Jose, CA. The match was held in honor and memory of the late Mike Sammon, a long time member of the Seahawk rugby family and fixture in the South Bay rugby community for 26 years who passed away in 2006. Both experienced and new ruggers from the Fog played tremendous rugby, with the Silverhawks emerging as victors of the match by a final score of 45 to 25.

On Friday, October 24, come out to The LookOut Bar at 3600 16th Street in the exciting Castro district to enjoy all the Budweiser beer you can drink from 6pm to 9:30pm for only 8 dollars!

The Fog will also be selling clothing merchandise (including t-shirts and hats) and holding a raffle with exciting prizes throughout the evening! And the Fog will be showing video highlights of their matches throughout the last season as seen on their FogTV YouTube channel on their big screen TVs!

The San Francisco Fog Women’s Side are traveling to Reno, Nevada for the 2nd Annual Biggest Little Rugby Tournament in the World, an all-day event hosted by the Zephyrs Reno Rugby Club on Saturday, October 18, 2008. The Lady Fog will compete in the women’s bracket of this tournament against other clubs such as the Chico Wildcats, UNR Women’s, Sacramento Amazons, Davis DoubleDeckers and the Salt City Slugs.

(15 Oct 2008) Fog Rugby this week is celebrating its eighth anniversary of founding as the nation’s preeminent rugby club geared toward those traditionally under-represented in the sport.

The San Francisco Fog RFC was officially founded by Derrick Mickle, Cameron Geddes and Bryce Eberhart eight years ago on October 14, 2000, as the nation’s second gay-friendly rugby club (after the Washington DC Renegades). Nine players attended the first organized practice.

Fog Rugby is well known due in part to Mark Bingham, an early member of the club, who was aboard United flight 93 when it crashed in rural Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001. The Fog honored his life by creating the biennial Bingham Cup® rugby tournament, the international championship event for gay and gay-friendly teams.

The Fog has won the Bingham Cup® tournament twice, in 2002 and 2004. It has also introduced the sport to hundreds of newcomers through its developmental team, and has fielded a successful women’s side since 2006.
